BAD MOOD
It’s time for trouble.
written by Knobs
Small Batch Bliss is back and badder (better) than ever.
We got a little carried away.
Lost + Found is available again in a new colorway, and includes a new firmware that addresses your biggest request.
We have a new pedal in the MOOD family.
I’ll explain everything below, but you can also follow these buttons to the product pages if you prefer:
I usually start off the announcement of a new pedal with a bit of storytime, but today there’s really no need: There’s no story behind BAD MOOD, or even a particularly good reason why we decided to make it.
It just seemed really, really fun, and it was.
It’s been 7(!) years since we made MOOD, and it’s still probably the best time we’ve ever had making a pedal. I’m pretty sure the first time ‘BAD MOOD’ entered the conversation it was a joke from someone on our team, but I became completely obsessed with the idea and within about 24 hours we decided to go for it. The opportunity to return to that place and imagine what MOOD could have been in another life was irresistible.
Same controls, same workflow, but with a different attitude.
It was a very freeing way to approach prototyping, and as you all know by now that’s what Small Batch is all about. So here we are, BAD MOOD is a real thing and it’s an absolute blast.
BAD MOOD
BAD MOOD is an exploration of the wild side of ambience.
It’s still an ambient pedal at its core, and it can soothe, but the point is to explore the kinds of electric and overwhelming ambient textures that often get overlooked.
It was built from scratch – though it shares the same control scheme as MOOD MKII – and includes a couple nice bonus features (Glue and Cross) that really bring things to life. I do want to make it clear, though, that this is not a sequel to MOOD MKII. You can think of it more like a sibling, or an inversion:
MOOD MKII captures the soft, dreamy side of ambience, and BAD MOOD explores the raw, reckless side.
You will understand it instantly, but I think you will be blown away by the sounds that come out of it.
Also, it’s available in two colors.
Also also – I mentioned we got carried away – it ships with a temporary tattoo, and an original comic we made with our friend Tim Wilkins.
Big whoop.
Lost + Found
It’s back!
I’m super happy about this, I know a lot of you were waiting / hoping Lost + Found would be available again before too long.
It has a new colorway, and ships with a new firmware that addresses a big (and reasonable) request that many of you had: To bring back the overdriven resonator voicing that was heard in our early demos. You can now select between three different voicings for the resonator, and this firmware is also available to those of you who ordered a Lost + Found last year.
Visit the Lost + Found product page for all the info about the update and how to use it. Otherwise it’s good ol’ Lost + Found as you know it, our first and only true multi-effect with a little something for every occasion.
There’s plenty of info and demos out there on it already, so I’ll keep it moving.
Small Batch Bliss
A quick refresher on what Small Batch is all about:
Small Batch Bliss is a made-to-order line of special edition pedals, and everyone that wants one can get one. There is no limit or selling out – simply order within the month-long preorder period and we’ll make a pedal just for you.
The only thing that’s a little different this year is we decided to get a headstart on things in production. If you were one of the folks that ordered a Lost + Found towards the end of the month last year you can probably guess why: It took us quite a long time to get everybody their pedals. So this year we’re prepared. All that means for you is that we’re going to start shipping pedals sooner, and finish shipping pedals faster. That’s the plan.
Just like every other year we’ll be accepting orders until August 31st, and once the calendar turns to September orders will be closed.
I should also mention that, for a variety of reasons, we won’t be doing Small Batch next year. So it would be at least a couple years before either of these pedals are available again.
Something for your drink, and something for your head.
That was a lot, thank you for sticking with me.
As usual, if anything is confusing at all just write to us:
You have until the end of August to order a BAD MOOD and/or a Lost + Found.
Our shipping plan is to get the first pedals out the door as soon as we’re caught up on Big Time orders that were placed in June. I’m thinking this will be roughly mid-August. From that point onwards we’ll be building and shipping both Small Batch and Big Time pedals steadily, as quickly as we can, and we’ll be sending additional newsletters to provide shipping updates over the course of the month. We’ll also keep the pedal pages updated with the current shipping estimates.
Okay now I’m really done. Thanks for reading, and let us know if you have thoughts or questions about anything.
